Keeps it's own with the Drake SPR-4 and the Panasonic RF-2200!ġ. The DX-390 is a strong performer on the AMBCB. With the Antenna Tuner feeding the External Antenna Jack I'm able to reduce the overload an clearly receive DX Stations on the AMBCB. The Antenna Tuner is a Godsend here in Portland due to the strong overload from Many local radio stations. I've got the DX-390 attached to my 80 foot Random Wire Antenna, through my SGC-230 Antenna Coupler, and finally through my MFJ Antenna Tuner. Finally I performed the Anti-chuffing MOD. This protects both the Whip Antenna and External Antenna inputs, to the RF Transistor, from Static Discharge. I added 1N4148 Diodes from the Antenna Input AFTER the External Antenna Jack. The difference is that the "PO" Terminal goes to Ground rather than to Vcc on the KDA5A. I added a Bistable Flip Flop Circuit, from China, to turn the LED continually ON or OFF with a single button press. I removed the incandescent Dial Lamp and installed a White LED. I completely disassembled the radio to perform the MODS.
HOMEBREW RFX 150 UPDATE
UPDATE : I just completed three MODS on the DX-390. The Realistic DX-390 will be my new Outdoor General Coverage Receiver! I'm apprehensive to bring the Panasonic RF-2200 out in the field due to its rarity, and replacement cost.
HOMEBREW RFX 150 PORTABLE
Very handy, unlike the Panasonic RF-2200, my other AMBCB Portable DX Hound. Lastly, I'll replace the defective Dial Lamp with a LED that can be turned On/Off indefinitely.Īpparently the AM Ferrite Antenna is disabled when the EXT ANT Jack is used. I will also disable the mute function, used when tuning. Instructions are available on the Internet. It's really important to protect the 1st RF Amp FET from Static Discharge. MW reception is solid with the Built-in Ferrite Antenna. SSB, CW, and even DATA Modes such as FT8 are stable enough to be easily decoded.
Sensitivity is excellent and the radio has a Adjustable BFO.
HOMEBREW RFX 150 FULL
This is a solid portable, with full coverage from 150 kHz through 30 mHz and the US FM Broadcast Band. The going rate for a working DX-390 in 2021 is about $80.
Otherwise, everything is intact and electrically perfect. Has a light rust stain on the speaker grill from a spill, a set of dead D cells, and a burned out dial lamp.
It came from the estate of a local, well known ham. A good example of a saddle with this is the SQ labs 611, that's what I ride in a road position, best to get your stones measured if you get a new saddle as not every saddle is build for everyone, the sq labs saddle comes in a number of different widths.Īnother example of a different saddle (one I use when I'm in an aero position) is the ISM Adamo racing saddle, your bits basically hang off the front as this saddle has no nose and allows your hips to rotate enough to get down and aero without putting additional pressure on your bits.Ībout the chaffing, it could be the saddle is too wide or that maybe you need some better cycling shorts or simply some chamois cream or body glide down there before you start your ride.: I just picked up a RS DX-390 on eBay for $25. If you go with a traditional road saddle you will want to get something with a recessed middle so your perineal nerve doesn't get pressured when sitting. The main reason for this is because everyone's arses are different widths people like different saddle types etc. Bike manufacturers often just put a cheap saddle on the bike and expect people to buy what they find comfortable. If you've bought a bike (especially a road bike) and you're still using the stock saddle that comes with it (assuming its <£1000) then chances are you will want to change it. Generally if you can't just jump on your bike and be comfortable then there's something wrong, certainly no guy has to do "tackle management" on the bike, you should be able to just sit and be comfortable.
